Gerson has been the director of the UCLA Law Library since 2007. Prior to joining UCLA Law in 1998, he worked as a tax associate at Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison in Palo Alto and as a state tax analyst for CCH, Inc. Gerson received his JD from Stanford Law School, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif, and earned a Master's degree in Information Management and Systems from U.C. Berkeley. He graduated from UCLA, summa cum laude, with a BA in Philosophy.
Joe Marando

Marando's career has been defined by the intersection of law and technology. After beginning his legal career as a tax lawyer at a top-tier firm, he transitioned into legal technology as a product manager and later advised law firms on innovation strategy. Most recently, he served as director of AI and legal technology at Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP, where he led firm-wide initiatives focused on integrating AI into legal service delivery. He also teaches at the Lincoln Alexander School of Law, where his course explores how emerging technologies can expand access to justice for underserved communities.
