The AALL Committee on Relations with Information Vendors invites you to the annual CRIV Vendor Roundtable, and this year's topic is Real-World Use Cases for AI Tools. This one-hour webinar will bring together several leading legal information vendors to demonstrate practical applications of their AI-enhanced products. Use cases presented will include research, drafting, document review, and other legal practice tasks. Representatives from Bloomberg Law, LexisNexis, Thomson Reuters, and vLex will speak, followed by an opportunity for audience questions via chat. The roundtable is open to all AALL members.

Andrew Christensen, Deputy Director of the Law Library, Washington and Lee University School of Law
Andrew Christensen is the Deputy Director of the Law Library at Washington and Lee University School of Law. He oversees the Law Library’s research, reference, and circulation services, digital initiatives, and teaches a course in legal research. Andrew is an active member of several professional organizations, notably serving as the current vice-chair of AALL’s Committee on Relations with Information Vendors (CRIV) and as president of the Virginia Association of Law Libraries (VALL). Andrew received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. He went on to earn a master’s degree in library and information science with a certificate in law librarianship from the University of Washington in 2010. Andrew also holds a bachelor of arts in linguistics and French from Duke University. Prior to joining W&L in 2013, Andrew was a reference librarian at Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, DC.

Andrew Gilman, Principal Product Manager, Bloomberg Law
Andrew Gilman, Principal Product Manager for Bloomberg Law’s transactional and corporate workflow solutions, has been with Bloomberg Industry Group for nearly 15 years. As a former M&A and securities attorney, he is passionate about finding ways to transform new innovative technologies into intuitive and powerful tools to save attorneys time and improve the quality of their work product. In addition to leading several engineering teams in building out a contract storage and drafting solution for in-house attorneys, Andrew oversaw the development and release of “Clause Adviser,” Bloomberg Law’s first fully integrated generative AI solution designed to assist attorneys in the analysis and negotiation of M&A Purchase Agreements.

Valerie McConnell, Senior Director, Customer Success, Thomson Reuters
Valerie is the Senior Director of CoCounsel Customer Success at Thomson Reuters, where she uses her litigation and intellectual property background to advise legal professionals on how to leverage artificial intelligence in their practices. Valerie is a frequent speaker on the application of generative AI to solve common pain points in legal workflows. Before joining Thomson Reuters, Valerie served as the Vice-President of Customer Success at Casetext, where she worked on the testing and development of CoCounsel. Previously, Valerie was a litigator at Jones Day, where she litigated intellectual property, antitrust, and commercial litigation matters. She received her J.D. from Stanford Law School, served as a fellow at Yale Law School, and studied computer science at Princeton University.

Damien Riehl, VP and Solutions Champion, vLex
Damien Riehl is a lawyer and technologist with experience in complex litigation, digital forensics, and software development. A lawyer since 2002 and coder since 1985, Damien clerked for the chief judges of state and federal courts, practiced in complex litigation for over a decade, has led teams of cybersecurity and world-spanning digital forensics investigations, and has built AI-backed legal software. At vLex Group—which includes Fastcase, NextChapter, and Docket Alarm—Damien helps lead the design, development, and expansion of various products, integrating AI-backed technologies (e.g., GPT) into a billion-document dataset from 100+ countries, all to improve legal workflows. Damien is Chair of the Minnesota State Bar Association’s working group on AI and the Unauthorized Practice of Law (UPL) plus Access to Justice (A2J). At SALI, the legal data standard he helps lead, Damien develops and has greatly expanded the taxonomy of over 17,000 legal tags that matter, helping the legal industry’s development of Generative AI, analytics, and interoperability.

Simon Weierman, Senior Director of Segment Management, LexisNexis
Simon Weierman is a Senior Director of Segment Management at LexisNexis with over 24 years of experience in the legal information industry developing customer-centric solutions. His current focus is on Product Strategy and understanding the needs of Large Law firms, Corporate Legal departments, and Law Schools. Simon dedicates his time to understanding the ever-changing Technology landscape and best practices in Customer Experience to identify opportunities for improving the practice and business of law. Simon studied Human Factors Engineering at the University of Dayton and resides today in Centerville, Ohio.
