Effective collaboration between the Library and IT Departments is essential for enhancing the user experience and optimizing resource management. Libraries and IT departments have opportunities for collaboration in service delivery, instructional design, technology instruction and competence, and knowledge management. Partnership between libraries and IT departments can improve service delivery, streamline processes, and leverage technology to better meet the needs of our community.
Information technology services have long been designed and implemented based on the Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) methodology and the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework, which prioritizes efficiency, user experience, and continual improvement. Delivery of library services can be structured with the same principles in mind. Libraries and IT departments often serve the same end user and have many areas of potential overlap. Collaboration between the two can result in an increase in consistency response time, and overall user satisfaction. This program will introduce the principles of ITSM and provide attendees with strategies for evaluating and aligning their services with these principles. Speakers will discuss service design and Library/IT collaboration in a variety of contexts, including service desk management, workflow design, and information sharing.
