DOI, ORCiD, Perma, accessibility, transparency: the list of best practices for academic publishing goes on, and is ever-growing and evolving. As information professionals, we are well-equipped to facilitate the implementation of new tools and technologies to assist legal journals in meeting current standards. However, in many cases the actual path toward implementation of these new practices remains opaque.

In this program, panelists will describe the different strategies they have taken to implement modern journal publishing standards and address emerging challenges at their own institutions, with a focus on identifying and working with key actors in the law review ecosystem; collaborating between departments and across institutions; the limitations and/or opportunities offered by popular proprietary or open-access publishing platforms; and taking advantage of moments of broader change to introduce new tools and establish new workflows.

The second half of this program will give participants a chance to share their own experiences in moderated table conversations organized around specific challenges and tools of interest such as DOIs, XML and document accessibility, ORCiD, Perma, AI policy, and data/research transparency.

This program will begin with a series of short lightning talks from panelists, describing the approaches they have taken to implement new practices at their own institutions. Subsequently, the audience will be asked to engage in moderated roundtable discussions based on subtopics of interest including DOIs, accessibility, XML and metadata, ORCiD, AI policy, and data transparency, with the goal of identifying steps that can be taken toward implementation in their own institutions.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

This program is geared toward all information professionals who interact with or support legal journals, want to learn about the dynamics of the legal scholarly publishing field, or seek to visualize their own roles as agents of positive change.
