AALL Body of Knowledge (BoK) Competencies Self-Assessment
AALL has developed this self-assessment tool that aligns with its Body of Knowledge (BoK). The BoK developed by AALL members, defines six domains for law librarians and legal information professionals. Each domain has multiple competencies, and skills today’s legal information professionals need for success.
This tool will help you, as legal information professionals, gauge not only where there is alignment with the BoK, but also where opportunities exist for improvement and enhancement. This tool is self-scored with no right or wrong answers. Use the results to make a development plan and complete the competencies tool at desired intervals to measure growth over time.
The assessment will list each BoK domain's competencies with their associated skills. Respondents will select their level of understanding for each competency listed: Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced. At the conclusion of the assessment, a curated list of AALL educational resources based on your individual responses will populate. You may retake the self-assessment as many times as you would like.
