    Diana Koppang is the Director of Research & Competitive Intelligence at Neal, Gerber & Eisenberg LLP in Chicago. In this role she directs a team of research analysts who manage all research, competitive intelligence, alerts, and knowledge management initiatives for the firm. Diana has presented at conferences for the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL), the Chicago Association of Law Libraries (CALL), Northwestern Law & Technology Initiative, ALM Legal Tech Show, Chicago Bar Association, Best Practices & Management Strategies for Law Firm Library, Research & Information Services (Ark), and the Patent Information Users Group (PIUG). Diana has served in leadership roles for CALL, AALL, and the Private Law Librarians and Information Professionals section of AALL. She currently serves on the Knowledge Management Advisory Board for Bloomberg Law. Diana was named to the 2020 Fastcase 50 list for legal tech innovators for her work in analyzing the litigation analytics market. Diana holds an M.S. in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

    Jeremy Sullivan is the national Manager of Competitive Intelligence & Analytics for DLA Piper LLP US. At DLA Piper, Jeremy and his team conduct in-depth research on current and prospective firm clients, peer firms and the legal market and industries of all sizes . Jeremy has spent more than a quarter century working in various research and management roles for 5 different AmLaw 100 law firms. He has served on the PLLIP board and is the current Vice President/President-Elect of NOCALL. Jeremy earned his MLIS from San Jose State University in 2000.

    SPEAKERS:

    Kathleen Darvil’s article, “Increasing Access to Justice by Improving Usability of Statutory Code Websites,” was the 2022 Winner for the Open Member Division of the AALL/LexisNexis Call for Papers. She is the Associate Librarian for Public Services at Brooklyn Law School. She joined the law library staff in November 2007, serving as the Access Services and Reference Librarian.  In addition to managing the Public Service Department, she teaches both Introduction to Legal Research and Advanced Legal Resource courses. Besides her “Call for Papers” article, she co-authored and published two law journal articles, co-edited the book, New York Legal Research, and wrote a few shorter pieces for the ALL-SIS Newsletter and Perspectives: Teaching Legal Research and Writing. Prior to joining Brooklyn Law School, she litigated child welfare proceedings both for the Legal Aid Society and for New York City’s Administration for Children's Services. 

    Olivia Smith Schlinck’s article, “Ok, Zoomer: Teaching Legal Research to Gen Z,” was the 2022 Winner for the New Member Division of the AALL/LexisNexis Call for Papers. She is the Instructional & Legal Technologies Librarian at the Cardozo School of Law in New York City, where she teaches legal research to various student cohorts. She is a pandemic graduate – Class of 2020 – from the CUNY School of Law (J.D.) and the Graduate School of Library & Information Studies at Queens College (M.L.S.). Olivia also has a B.A. in sociology from Manhattan College. She is interested in innovative pedagogy and legal education generally.

    SPEAKERS: 

    Lucy Curci-Gonzalez, Executive Director, has over three decades of law library management and legal research experience.  At NYLI, Lucy coordinates a top-notch team that provides its members with a one-stop digital branch by offering leading-edge services, electronic resources, access to print materials, and developing strategic partnerships with vendors, consultants, and other research institutions. Prior to joining NYLI she was director of two mid-size IP law firm libraries.  During her career, Lucy worked as a catalog, interlibrary loan, and reference librarian at state court, law school, corporate legal department, and federal agency law libraries in New York City giving her a broad perspective on the legal information industry.  Lucy is very active in AALL and its chapters where she has served in many leadership roles and been recognized for her contributions to law librarianship.  In 2021 SLA acknowledged her outstanding achievements with the Dana Gordon Special Librarian of the Year Award.

    Stephanie D. Davis is the Manager of Group Purchasing at the Midwest Collaborative for Library Services (MCLS), a position she has held since 2019. In this role, Stephanie is responsible for leadership and oversight of the MCLS group purchasing service. In 2021, MCLS conducted $23 million dollars of subscription business. Stephanie’s work involves negotiating subscription terms and eResource license agreements with over 70 vendors. Open Access and Shared Print are some of Stephanie’s additional responsibilities! Prior to coming to MCLS, Stephanie served as an academic librarian, working in reference and instruction and also as a library director. She graduated with a MS from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and also holds a Master in Business Administration from Spring Arbor University. Spare time pursuits include reading and spending time in the great outdoors in Traverse City, MI where she lives.

    Corie Dugas has served as the Executive Director of NELLCO Law Library Consortium, Inc. since 2017. As the leader of an international consortium of over 125 institutional members, Dugas primarily establishes and maintains relationships and contracts with vendors, hosts continuing education and professional development programs for librarians and library staff, and supports collaborative projects. Prior to joining NELLCO, Dugas worked as the Head of Outreach and Access Services at Saint Louis University’s law library. She began her library career at the University of Kansas in 2004.


    COORDINATOR/MODERATOR: 

    Duane Strojny joined WMU-Cooley in 1995 as Head of Information Services for the law school library. He was named Acting Director of the library in 2002 and oversaw the dedication of the library in founder Thomas E. Brennan's name. He became the Associated Dean for Library and Instructional Support, overseeing all aspects of the library operation, in July 2002. Before joining WMU-Cooley, Duane served as Head of Reference for Marquette University Law Library 1992-1995, Reference/Collection Management Librarian for Marquette University Law Library 1990-1992, Reference Librarian for the University of Miami Law Library 1989-1990, and Night/Weekend Supervisor at the Marquette University Law Library 1988-1989. Duane has participated in numerous panels and presentations on law library-related issues, and have authored several articles. More recently, he has served as a RIPS- SIS blogger for a number of years. He has taught the electronic research component of Research and Writing, Advanced Writing, advanced Lexis and Westlaw, and internet research since 1998. Most recently, he has taught specialized one-credit research electives as well as a required Advocacy course. He has been a member of AALL for over 30 years participating in a number of committees and special interest sections.

    Elise Perry, Legal Manager, EMENA, TrustLaw

    Elise Perry joined Trustlaw in July 2021 and is the legal manager for the EMENA region. Perry has eight years of experience working on criminal justice policy, international trade, and development law gained from diverse environments including government, international organizations, not-for-profit, clinical practice, and academia. Most recently, she served as a trade lawyer for the UK Government, advising the Department of Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy on cross-cutting WTO and international and treaty law issues, including those arising from the UK exiting the EU. Prior to this, Perry was a global justice scholar at New York University and a consultant for the UN Development Programme building collaboration between UN agencies working on rule of law projects. She is a qualified lawyer in Australia.

    Adriano Mancinelli, Senior Programme Manager, EMENA, TrustLaw

    Adriano joined the Thomson Reuters Foundation in June 2019. As Senior Programme Manager, EMENA, he leads the EMENA team's work to provide NGOs and social enterprises with access to high-quality, free legal assistance, while spreading the practice of pro bono among legal firms in over 60 countries in Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. Prior to joining the Foundation, Mancinelli co-founded KindLink, a tech startup helping companies showcase their corporate social responsibility activities and impact to increase their employee engagement and reputation. He has also worked as a fundraiser for humanitarian relief and conflict resolution charities based in the UK; and he is the chairman of the KindLink Foundation, which provides free online tools to nonprofit organizations so they can showcase their impact and raise more funds from their supporters.

    Bob Ambrogi, Lawyer, Legal Journalist

    Ambrogi is a lawyer and legal journalist who has been writing and speaking about legal technology, legal practice, and legal ethics for more than two decades. He hosts LawNext, the podcast that features the innovators and entrepreneurs who are driving what’s next in law and writes a column on legal technology for Above the Law. Ambrogi is a lawyer who represents news organizations and serves as executive director of the Massachusetts Newspaper Publishers Association, an organization that advocates for the First Amendment and freedom of the press. In 2011, Ambrogi was named to the inaugural Fastcase 50, honoring “the law’s smartest, most courageous innovators, techies, visionaries and leaders.” In 2017, he received the Yankee Quill award for journalism from the Academy of New England Journalists. The same year, he was honored by the ABA Journal as a Legal Rebels Trailblazer.

    JoAnn Buss, Former Director of Docketing Services, Sidley Austin LLP

    Buss is the former director of Docketing Services at Sidley Austin LLP and was responsible for the litigation court services and docketing function for the firm. She has over 40 years of litigation docketing experience with a focus on electronic court filing in both the State and Federal courts, as well as docketing software implementation. In addition to her 14 years at Sidley, Buss worked at Skadden for 18 years as the managing clerk/docket manager in their Chicago office.

    In her role at Gunderson Dettmer, Goutos is focused on optimizing client value, driving technology innovation, and supporting the needs of start-up and emerging growth companies. She has significant experience leading technology innovation at law firms and is skilled in promoting change, driving quantifiable results, and supporting an organization’s overall objectives. Prior to joining Gunderson Dettmer, Goutos was the manager of innovation and knowledge management at a national law firm with more than 950 attorneys, where she led multiple enterprise deployments and was instrumental in building out the firm’s Innovation & Knowledge Management department. Additionally, she has extensive experience with labor & employment class actions. Goutos was the knowledge management attorney for Jackson Lewis’ Class Actions & Complex Litigation practice group. In this role, she developed new knowledge-sharing technologies, processes, and solutions; drafted and managed legal resources; and established best practices to enhance the firm’s ability to defend class actions. Prior to this role, she was an associate attorney at Jackson Lewis where she focused her labor & employment practice on class and collective actions, including a broad range of federal and state law claims.

    Alex Zhang is the Archibald C. and Frances Fulk Rufty Research Professor of Law, Associate Dean of Information Services, and Director of the J. Michael Goodson Law Library at the Duke University School of Law. She is the chief editor of Legal Reference Services Quarterly. She is a co-editor of Global Animal Law Research (Carolina Academic Press, forthcoming in 2022). She is also a country editor of the chapters on Mainland China and Taiwan in Foreign Law Guide.

    Annalee Hickman Pierson is the Head of Reference and Faculty Services at the Howard W. Hunter Law Library at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. She happily joined the law library faculty there in 2016 shortly after completing a J.D. at Brigham Young University. She is currently serving a four-year term as an editorial board member (specifically, the Online Content Editor) of Legal Writing: The Journal of the Legal Writing Institute. She has also been involved in editorships as an assistant editor for Legal Writing: The Journal of the Legal Writing Institute and for Legal Information Review, as a peer reviewer for Legal Communication & Rhetoric: JALWD, and as the faculty adviser for BYU Journal of Public Law. Her scholarship has appeared in Law Library Journal, Perspectives: Teaching Legal Research and Writing, AALL Spectrum, Student Lawyer, BYU Journal of Public Law, and the books The Scribes Manual for Law Review Editors (forthcoming 2022) and Introduction to Law Librarianship.

    Lacy Rakestraw is a staff attorney and the Director of the Saint Louis County Law Library, located in the County Courthouse in Clayton, MO. Lacy earned a B.A. in English-Creative Writing and History from the University of Missouri-Columbia, where she also received her M.L.S. She attended Southern Illinois University for her J.D. and is licensed to practice in Missouri. Lacy has previously worked as a law clerk for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois and as the evening librarian at the East St. Louis Community College Center.     SPEAKERS:

    Richard Leiter is the Director of the Schmid Law Library and Professor of Law. Although he assumed his current position in 2000, he had worked on the UNL law library staff years ago (1986-1988) as Public Services Librarian. He earned his undergraduate degree (with honors) in 1976 from the University of California, Santa Cruz, his J.D. in 1981 from Southwestern University School of Law, where he was an editor of the law review, and his MLIS in 1986 from the University of Texas at Austin.

    Katherine Lowry serves as Co-Chair of the Emerging Technology team of BakerHostetler's Digital Assets and Data Management Group and leads the firm's legal technology consulting and R&D team, IncuBaker, which is known for helping lawyers navigate the intersection of digital business, emerging technology and the law. This team serves corporate legal departments across every industry to support their digital transformation, privacy management and data initiatives. Katherine earned her undergraduate degree in 1998 from Stetson University, and her J.S., from the University of Dayton Scholl of Law in 2001. Most recently, Katherine was recognized as an AI Visionary by Relativity, a recognition given to those whose foresight and leadership in advancing the use of AI are propelling their organizations forward.

    Gail Warren is the State Law Librarian of the Supreme Court of Virginia and has served in this position since September 1982. Ms. Warren was admitted to the Virginia State Bar in 1982 and is a member of the Education of Lawyers section. From 1991-2000 she served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Law at the T.C. Williams School of Law of the University of Richmond. She is active in the American Association of Law Libraries and has held leadership positions in AALL, the Government Law Libraries Special Interest Section of AALL, and the Virginia Association of Law Libraries. Ms. Warren was appointed to the Virginia Access to Justice Commission in November 2013. She earned a B.A. from James Madison University, a J.D. from the University of Richmond, and an M.S.L.S. from The Catholic University of America.

    MODERATOR:

    Paul Callister is the director of the Leon E. Bloch Law Library and professor of law. He joined UMKC in 2003 after serving as an assistant professor of library administration at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a graduate of Brigham Young University (BA, philosophy major), Cornell Law School (JD, Business Law and Regulation concentration), and the Graduate School of Library and Information Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (MS). At Cornell, he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Cornell International Law Review. In spring 2021, the law school awarded Professor Callister the Marvin Lewis Rich Award for his last three years of combined scholarship and teaching. Professor Callister teaches Cyberlaw, Law Practice Technology, Document Automation, Copyright and legal research courses.

    Christopher Anderson joined St. John’s Law in 2019. Prior to becoming a law librarian, he practiced commercial litigation and worked in the public library sector. In his role as the Collection Services & Digital Initiatives Librarian, he is responsible for administration of the integrated library systems, serves as the primary administrator of the institutional repository, participates in the preparation and delivery of legal research instruction, and provides reference services to the Law School community. Additionally, he is a member of the Law School’s Instructional Continuity Team, assisting faculty with remote instruction. Chris received his M.S.L.I.S., from St. John’s University, in 2019. He holds and LL.M. from NYU School of Law, J.D. from Syracuse Univ. College of Law, and undergraduate degree from The College of William and Mary.

    Kim Serna is the Firmwide Associate Director of Research Services for Jones Day. She has been with the Firm for over 19 years. As a member of the Research & Library Services Department, Kim presides over the Research Librarians, as well as the research conducted on behalf of the Firm and its clients. Kim received a M.L.I.S. from the University of North Texas and an undergraduate degree from Virginia Wesleyan University. She is an active member of the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL), Private Law Librarians & Information Professionals (PLLIP), & Houston Area Law Librarians (HALL). Kim currently serves on the Thomson Reuters Information Professional Advisory Board and AALL Leadership Development Committee.
